The Hoh Rainforest. Please forgive the very low quality pictures. This place was AMAZING. I think it's one of those places where you have to see it in person to really SEE it. Well, was that a confusing enough sentence for ya? Anyways, my mouth just hung open the entire time. From giant moss covered trees to crystal clear marshes (I know they aren't supposed to be so clean, but these truly were), I was in heaven. We were all alone on our self guided hike. The visitor's center wasn't open the day we went so there weren't even any workers.

This section was called The Hall of Mosses. Oh my. Can you say ethereal? I don't think a picture on earth could do it justice. You have to physically be standing there, in the midst of these giant moss draped trees. It is an experience I will never forget. So get yourself to The Hoh Rainforest people!

Since we were smack in the middle of a rainforest, all we heard was nature. No man made noises of any kind, besides ourselves of course. In this last picture, all I wanted was to make it to the other side and build myself a shelter and live there. But sadly, I was in danger of slipping (which I wouldn't have minded so much if I didn't have this deathly fear of deep water) so I vowed the next time I came I'd be more prepared. Mentally and in the shoe department...

The trucks were at the Commerce building so we went inside to just browse a bit and found these... The stars themselves! At least their cardboard selves...

I laugh every time I see these. Oh Jenna. Maybe I'm jealous. I would love to hold Taylor Lautner's hand though...

We went souvenir shopping where I was practically forced into this.

The beaches at La Push (about a 20 mile drive from Forks) are quite stunning. The islands a little way out are so fun and if the water weren't who knows how cold, I would have swam out to meet them.

We went to two different beaches. At First Beach, there are piles and piles of driftwood you have to maneuver your way through to get down to the sand. It's quite the challenge- especially when the wind is trying to tackle you.

As I said, the wind was crazy. We (I) convinced everyone to attempt to walk this strip of driftwood debris. It looked easy enough from a distance. But as we started the adventure, it became quite dangerous. Imagine a very strong ocean wind, and a big strip of rocks, driftwood, moss and drop-offs. Get the picture? Anyways, lets just be honest and say that as soon as I slipped and fell a few times, I was NOT laughing in the face of danger.

However, I did laugh when Jenna made her way over to where I was. She came dressed in layer after layer after layer of coats of all sizes. My mom explained saying, "It's to add some weight so she doesn't blow away." We laughed because as funny as it sounded, it was too true.

You may not be able to tell from the picture, but my mom was in serious danger of falling down one of those drop-offs I was telling you about. She swayed a couple of times, and we laughed about her pose- which didn't help her case at all.

Forks Round 2. Part 1

For Thanksgiving we took a girls trip to Forks, WA. We drove. Yes it was a long drive, but the scenery was much better than say, driving through Nevada and much of Utah for that matter! :) We stayed with Carol for a night, but sadly forgot to take any photos. But we enjoyed visiting them!

From there we made our way to Forks via the Kingston Ferry and then drove about 4 more hours on GORGEOUS highways with heavenly scenery. Okay, so there is more than one type of heavenly scenery, but let me make it clear that green forests are on that list. I think I had to hold back my tears the whole time we were there. The scenery is honestly breathtaking. Okay, I'll stop chattering. If you want, you can read my very first post about Forks where I pour my heart out about how in love I am with the place.

Here are some of thedecor the girls and I made this year. Adam's addition is the"Asian".

These took forever tocut out! I finally stopped being my usual control freak, and let the girlshelp. Glad I did. They look pretty real too - One of Jenna's friends came tothe door and was telling Jenna how she thought they were real. It was kind offunny.

Cutting this also tried my patience, but it turned out alright. Anna drew the face, Jenna traced her hands and feet, and Kate did the ribs after I had to throw away too many plates due to failed attempts.

Now for the eye candy- costumes! Let's start with the oldest so that's over with :)

40 Years

My mom is now 40! But no worries, you'd never know just by looking at her. Lucky lucky...

We were graced by the presence of Jared and Lani's crew and Jan and Ethan.

We had DELICIOUS food prepared by my dad and myself. The menu? Turkey steaks, homemade rosemary fries, homemade potato salad, fruits, chips, homemade limeade and apple juice.

I made the cake and all I can remember is that it was chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. What can I say, I'm a female. There can never be too much chocolate. I remember mayonnaise too. I attempted to do 'ruffle' frosting, but the frosting was a bit runny. And then I ran out and had to make more, hence the different colors. But it was mighty yummy! My vocabulary is awesome right :)

I went to Forks! You know, like Twilight Forks? I didn't want to come back. Of course I've always loved Washington, and to me, anywhere there is beautiful. But I have a crush on Forks. I'm going to live there. Now, you must believe me when I say, that the only thing Twilight has to do with this, is that without it, I never would have heard about Forks. I guess you could say it introduced us. Forks was gorgeous! Stunning even. Oh the trees! And the ocean! And so few people! I literally couldn't ask for anything more :)

For all three days, it was warm and sunny. I was so excited to get out of this horrid desert and be somewhere where it was nice and green and raining, only to be under clear blue skies. What happened to the rain! Oh well, I know how rare sunshine is in Washington, so I wasn't terribly worried. When I get there, I can have rainy weather to my heart's content. And probably more :)

I just had to take a picture of the seats Robert and Kristen actually sat on. Corny, I know. (I just feel like letting everyone know that I really don't like the movies. They are so hard to watch. I think I've only seen each of them twice. That's it. The books are SO MUCH BETTER.) Anyways...

Next came La Push, the Indian Reservation where Jacob lives in the books.

Here lies the ocean. The drive here is on a two lane road about 20 miles long. On either side is endless forest. It was so pretty. The drive and the beach.

Along with visiting Forks, we (my dad and I) also visited North Bend. I'd heard all these stories and it was fun to see where so many of them happened. We went to see Pirates at the old theater. I loved it! the theater. and the movie. They were playing old music, like from the 40's, and the seats were vinyl. It was so fun.

After I'd seen both Forks and North Bend, my dad asked me which place I liked better. He was stuck like glue on North Bend :) and I just couldn't get over Forks! :) Both had so many pretty trees, but NB was mountain land, and Forks was coastal. I told him that I just have a thing, a very strong thing mind you, for coastal living. But honestly, I'd just be happy to live anywhere in Washington.

One last thing. As we were driving back from the ocean, I was looking outside through the forest when I turned to my dad and said, "Hey dad, it's twilight. Literally. Look...". It was twilight and the forest was glowing. The way the sun was shining down through the trees was glorious. I told my dad I could see how this place could play with your imagination. Even though vampires, werewolves, fairies, dragons, and elves aren't real, this place could make you think otherwise :). Some places are just like that.

Jesse went with his choir group from school to a festival in Seattle! Am I jealous? totally. Here's what he had to say about it...

"We went to Seattle, Washington, and the drive up there was about 17 hours. We stayed in the Marriott Hotel and it had a pretty nice indoor pool. Our first day there we went to the Science Museum and ate at Red Robin. Then we went to a Museum of Music. The next day we did our performance, then took a ferry to an Indian Reservation where they served us fresh salmon. We took first in every category that we performed in, and scored high enough to be invited to the Festival of Gold competitions in New York City, Chicago, and Anaheim. The next day we went to a session of General Conference, visited the Space Needle, and went to the Aquarium and Pike's Market. Then we had our long drive home again. It was way fun!"

Adam decided he wanted to dye his hair black, so he bought some dye and my mom played hairdresser. As the dye was setting, I thought he looked like someone from The Incredibles or maybe Meet the Robinsons.

Here he is with his newly colored hair. All he needs now is some grease and a flick comb!

And lastly, I made some green crepes for St. Patrick's Day complete with HOMEMADE WHIPPED CREAM. I am so addicted. I can feel my eyes going wide and get hyper every time I make it. I know I sound like a freak, but it is just soooo good.

Just for kicks, 'Adam in the treetops'. Along with Grease, I also seem to be channeling Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. (That is the title of the score in the movie for when the character Adam gets kicked out on his wedding night.) I'm on a roll!

Student of the Year!

A couple of weeks ago, Kate was chosen as the Student of the Year! Quite an award. Last night we attended a ceremony at Orem High School for this very thing. The ceremony awarded all the winners from each of the schools in Utah county. There were yummy orderves and a nice ceremony followed. There were a couple of dance numbers and an elementary school choir provided some music. They spotlighted each winner and gave them a plaque for their win.

*On a side note, a little while back I made a heavenly chocolate mousse pie, with homemade whipped cream (I am obsessed with that stuff). It looked cool, and tasted REALLY good. I can't wait to make it again!

I'm Officially a Pro at Catch-up Posts

A while back, I tried my hand at making a 'rainbow cake'. Funny story- so I thought in order to have enough batter for 6 layers, I'd better quadruple it. After about the 2nd or 3rd ingredient, the beaters died. Awesome.
My solution = pretend I'm a pioneer of sorts and stir it all by hand. My arm felt as though it was ready to fall off, not to mention the bowl with the (quadrupled for goodness sake) batter weighed like 40 pounds. At least it tasted good.

Before grandma left for Cali, we had a girls-only book club :) We discussed "The Goose Girl" and had Ugly Ducking Cake. It was very fun and would have been fun to do more often.

A Fine Time

I have to say, December this year hasn't been too bad. We've enjoyed living very close to family, aka, Sunday dinners and hanging out.

Earlier in the month, we attended Jesse's choir concert. It was a combined concert featuring Mountain View High School. I was very impressed. There were some great numbers like the funny song about fruitcake, and a tribal number. All in all, they did a wonderful job.

A couple of weeks ago dinner was hosted at our house. Beforehand, my mom and I scored some cute (and cheap) plates and such at Target. And I'll be honest- i struggled (and wrestled) to keep those name tags ON the cups.

Anyways, we had some very tasty salmon, salad with pecans, apple slices and raspberry dressing, and red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Such a delicious meal! Despite the fact that by the end of the night, nearly every cupcake left no longer had any frosting. Oh children.

My mom and I had fun making these edible gifts for our visiting teaching sisters, along with gpa and Sarah (don't worry, we didn't forget gma. We gave her a book light). I'm not much for 'smores, but these looked yummy :)

And just for fun, we Norris' like puzzles- I think... I know Jenna and I do :)

Let's Play Catch Up Shall We?

Early in November, all us Utah girls, plus one Utah boy (Adam), went to see The Scarlet Pimpernel at the Hale Theater. It was so fun! Before the play, we went to eat at Apollo, or as grandma always says, The Apollo. I guess in her opinion, it deserves a THE :) Anyways, the food, was great, including the 'Salt and Pepper in Megan's drink' prank we pulled. Classic.

All us girls were simply smitten with one of the actors. He was hilarious and we laughed really hard. Though as it happened, the girls were to shy to go talk to him afterwards. Oh well, that's girls for ya.

Kate is now 12! She has graduated to Young Women's and is enjoying it.

For Thanksgiving,I went to California with grandma/pa and Sarah. It was fun to visit and take a break from Utah:) Meanwhile, the girls made some cute and edible treats for their Thanksgiving.

For the next holiday season, we had some fun making some carolers.

My dad asked me to make some for a family he goes home teaching to. They have three young boys, with another on the way.

Last night me, Kate and my parents were able to see The Christmas Concert in Salt Lake with the Mormon Tab and David Archuleta!

The journey there deserves an entire post, what with an accident on the freeway that took hours to clear away, no parking anywhere, my dad literally running to get there by 7:30, and barely getting in and finding seats among all those that were being 'saved'. They ended up turning away over a thousand people away who HAD tickets. We were informed later that they over-ticketed and so many performers save seats for family members, etc. Nevertheless, I was grateful we made it in, and the concert was wonderful. I love his voice! And there was definitely a sweet spirit there. The orchestra, choir, and the story told by Michael York was really great.
But I have to say that the hands-down best part was the organ solo. Hello! The guy played a whole tune with his feet! Then, as his feet continued their part, his right hand played a part, and his left hand a different part (fyi all at the same time). All I could do was smile and shake my head. Talented? I know so.

P.S.
Jenna came home a couple days ago and told this story: she was in class and when she got her planner out for her teacher to check, she remembered an adult hadn't signed it. So before her teacher came to her, she copied the previous signature which happened to be Jesse's. She said after she'd done that, her teacher came by and signed it. Jenna had fooled her teacher!
It was so funny. Check out her forgery- Jesse's is on the top, Jenna's version is below. Not bad, if I may say so myself.

Fun with Grandma

Yesterday Grandma N. (alias: Ma) invited all the grand kids to a "camp out" in Jared and Lani's backyard. We had hotdogs and made cookies to look like cute flip-flops.

We watched some fun movies- my favorite being "The Princess of Thieves", when at the end the characters didn't get together, Lani said "Wait, are you serious? Rewind! They get married!...".
The kids enjoyed sleeping outside in the tent with grandma, and watching shooting stars overhead.
Then today we all went swimming. It was the perfect day, and the kids all got along quite well and enjoyed themselves. Thanks Grandma!

Why is the rum always gone, or in my case, left out?

Last night my mom and I made a cake from the cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. We made a chocolate almond cake, with delicious chocolate glaze/icing. I had to do a practice round before I make it for her birthday. My mom made me leave out the rum extract, darn it. I informed her I was part pirate, but I guess that didn't work. Maybe next time :) But until then, I'm excited for my parents to come home and try it out with me.

On Thursday I attended my "official" graduation ceremony. A while back when I first started East Shore, I remember my dad, Jared and grandma all joking about me NOT attending a graduation ceremony. Well, I sure showed them! :)

Afterwards we went to eat DELICIOUS mexican food -my favorite! Grandma also gave me an abalone shell. A very unique gift which I love.

I just finished reading a 418 page autobiography. Talk about 'whoa'. As much as I hate to say this, because I love books, but bios and auto bios are just tough reading. So guess what's next? A biography. This one is called "Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire". The movie "The Duchess" is based on the book. I've been meaning to read it for some time now, so wish me luck!

My family and I went to California (LA) for a few days. It was so great and we all had a wonderful time. We met up with Bryon, Michelle and Josh for a baseball game and the beach. Such fun!

I decided to add a little something to this blog (that needs much more attention from its author). I do love to read and so decided to add a spot for my current reading book. My grandma would be pleased- I hope - to hear that I haven't read a science fiction book for quite some time now :).

Anyways, I am nearing the end of this great book called "Me: Stories of My Life" written by the (gorgeous) Katherine Hepburn herself. It is really just like reading someone's journal or listening to endless stories, and who doesn't enjoy listening to stories? She is so witty and over-bearing it's funny. There are a number of home pictures throughout the book that make it that much more interesting. To say the least, she's my kind of woman- no make up and can't tell a story without remembering another one...

Today I played my guitar and sang jiNgLE bEllS at my grandma's work. The key to success were my bell players! Janie and Chloe shook those bells and did awesome. We played 5 times and I prayed my fingers would hold up since I haven't played for a little while.

Last night at Young Woman's in Excellence I sang the song "In That Holy Place". I was nervous but I am so excited to say that each time I sing the nervousness goes away the minute I start singing. Happy days indeed! My mom played for me and as usual she did great. She was also supposed to play the opening song but missed it! She was practicing a song she got 5 minutes before we started that she had to play for some girls in the program. I just thought it was funny- totally out of it :)

I really enjoyed the River Walk. The boat man was pretty funny- ex: everyone touch those leaves.... those were tropical poison ivy. I thought it was funny:)

Sea World

Thank you to Chris and Tricia who were kind enough to take me to Sea World- I loved it! Quick note: it was HOTTT.

We saw Viva- dolphins and acrobats. That was my favorite, it was pretty cool.

We also saw Shamu the killer whale- those things are huge! 8,000-12,000 lbs!

The aquarium was really cool too. Except the sharks. I REALLY don't like sharks. I have a love/hate realtionship with them. You'll often catch me watching shows or videos about them, but deep down, they give me nightmares. I could barely look at them!

Yesterday we went bowling! And we forgot the camera, sorry! I barely broke a hundred and Carter was close behind- he didn't even have bumpers so I was impressed! Tricia then treated us to Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and may I say that one is plenty. Chris and Tricia went out yesterday so Chandler and I were on dinner duty. I had to wrestle to get them to bed... We've also had fun watching iCarly! Good times.

I found my blog! I'm not lying I lost it. I couldn't remember what the link was and I didn't have it as a favorite. But I found it!! That totally sounds like me.... Anyways, I made it to Texas. Chris and Tricia are great hosts and it isn't TERRIBLE outside. I told Tricia it felt like a suana- bearable but HOT. I am missing family and screaming with the girls about the Jonas Brothers.... When I figure out a way to put pictures on I will. Until then...
